TCARC’s ARES emergency communications team in Tioga County trains regularly to provide reliable backup communications when normal systems fail.

TCARC ARES Update
In late 2025, TCARC voted to establish a local ARES group and began work on the ARES Task Book process. Training, exercises, and additional updates will be posted as the program develops.

When responding to an assignment, plan to be self-sufficient. A simple kit can make a big difference.
Short Assignment (local)
- Water + snacks
- Weather-appropriate clothing / rain gear
- Any needed medication
- Small first-aid kit
- Notepad + pen
- Copy of your amateur license
- Phone charger / power bank
Overnight / Extended
- Warm layer + spare socks
- Headlamp / flashlight
- Extra water + simple food
- Blanket or sleeping bag
- Basic hygiene items
- Optional: small shelter items if needed
